Lambda waste check
Over Provisioned Lambda
over_provisioned_lambda
What it finds
Over Provisioned Lambda: one of the Lambda checks in the serverless optimization group. Checks in this group look for: serverless functions, state machines and APIs that are unused, mis-sized, on an old runtime, or configured in a way that bills more than needed.
Why it costs money
Serverless bills per request and per unit of memory and time, so a wrong setting multiplies on every invocation.
How it is detected
Memory utilization < 50%
Detection confidence: MEDIUM. This is the criterion from our public docs. It runs in a local scan with your own read-only credentials.
AWS's own tools
AWS flags this too, under "AWS Lambda over-provisioned functions for memory size".
Checked against the AWS documentation.
Run it yourself
Nothing leaves your machine. The local scan has no telemetry.
